Learn How to Divide and Plant Native Irises
Description: Winter is the time to divide native iris plants. UC Master Gardeners will demonstrate how to divide the California native iris plants. The first part of the demonstration will be in the library, with a brief overview of the native irises. This will be followed by a hands-on demonstration, on the patio or in the garden, of dividing a large iris clump. There will be divisions for everyone. The divisions can be planted directly in the garden now or in containers.
UC Master Gardener Presenters
- Cathrin Callas: Cathrin joined the UC Master Gardener program in 2022 after retiring from a career in engineering. A California native, her life-long love of flowering plants includes a particular interest in California native plants. She currently lives and gardens in San Carlos.
- Carolyn Dorsch: Carolyn has always had a deep admiration and affinity for all plants, marveling at their incredible ability to survive and thrive in a myriad of conditions. She enjoys seeing plants in their natural habitat, in all seasons, and applies her knowledge of how California natives grow in the wild in order to cultivate them in the garden. An avid vegetable gardener, Carolyn plants a garden every year and enjoys learning new techniques and trying out new varieties.
