Prudent Winter Tree Pruning
This class will review tree pruning techniques that apply to all perennials, with an emphasis on how to prune different deciduous fruit trees. Prudent winter pruning is the best way to invigorate fruit trees in the home garden. The presenters will bring samples into class to demonstrate how to prune safely and accurately.
During this introductory class, you will learn how to:
- Prune deciduous fruit trees which applies to all perennials.
- Maximize tree health and fruit production.
Identify dead, damaged and dying wood.
Presenters MG Kathleen Putnam and MG Lisa Putnam:
Kathleen Putnam is a professional organic vegetable gardener serving the Mid-Peninsula and is an ISA Certified Arborist. Kathleen has a degree in Environmental Horticulture from City College of San Francisco and is a UC Master Gardener. Kathleen’s passion is fruit trees and soil.
Lisa Putnam has a BS in Agricultural Economics from UC Davis and also studied nutrition science at Davis. She currently operates a small sustainable organic farm in Woodside and Portola Valley and is a UC Master Gardener and Master Composter. Lisa’s passion is soil and compost.
Together they have been teaching about gardening at Lyngso, San Mateo County Fair, and Garden Clubs for the last 12 years.

Parking Information: Parking usually isn't a problem. There is a designated library parking lot, as well as free street parking. The Saturday farmers market and soccer games can bring in crowds so feel free to use the Cunha Intermediate School parking lot, if needed (the middle school adjacent to the library parking lot).
*Weekend traffic over 92 can be slow if it's a sunny day, so please allow some extra time for travel.
