Tom Sparks
Dr. Tom Sparks received his PhD in Entomology from the University of California (UC), Riverside, in 1978. He is an insect toxicologist and contributes toward developing low risk pesticides. He has worked both in academia and industry. He is currently a Dow AgroSciences Research Fellow working in Indianapolis, IN. He was instrumental in the development of the spinosyn class of insecticides, which provides excellent control of a variety of insect pests while maintaining a very favorable environmental profile. These compounds are used commonly in vegetables, and fruit and nut orchards. He currently holds a dozen patents/patent applications and has published extensively in scientific journals and books with 150 refereed journal publications, book chapters, and other articles.
