My wife and I raised three girls that went through the 4-H program. I cannot express how valuable that was to them in shaping their lives but also giving them wholesome activities to be a part of. As the area is becoming more urban all the time, this position is really needed to keep the programs and clubs up to date and relevant. Thank you so much for your consideration.

It is very important to have an advisor for Butte County. Butte County has a very active and viable 4-H program. I raised my children in the 4-H projects and now my grandchildren are going through 4-H programs. We have been community leaders, project leaders and I am currently Scholarship Chairman. This 4-H program is teaching hands-on activities when there is nothing else being taught in these rural areas. Butte, Glenn & Tehama Counties are definitely Rural. The teaching of citizenship within the program is also very important. The programs available are needed. What is taught at the counties in 4-H cannot be replicated in any other program available.

Having a 4-H Advisor in Butte County is very important. The program is in need of this position and has been for a while now. I was in 4-H as a child and have raised my children in the program. I am currently a Community Club Leader and have been a project leader as well as volunteering my time for other county programs. This program teaches kids to citizenship, leadership and service learning projects. The 4-H Program also teaches children how to present themselves in front of a crowd, which in turn helps them when they head out to the workforce from the interviewing process. Butte County has been through a few advisors over past seven years that I have been a CCL. The program rep and advisor go hand and hand, Thanks.

I was a 4-H member in my youth, this provided a preliminary knowledge and appreciation for animal husbandry, awareness of the laws of nature, and I learned to sew! Having this socialization was an important part of rural living in our community. I believe that the continued prescence of a 4-H Advisor is beneficial to orienting our future farmers and ranchers by providing a foundation for future support and growth with continuity. Please continue to provide this position in Butte County.

I wholeheartedly endorse the need for a fully integrated 4-H Program in Butte County. It is essential that our children have the opportunity to learn about animal husbandry and agriculture. I have witnessed the effectiveness of the 4-H program over the years, and feel the program, which not only emphasizes the importance of agriculture in our community, but also serves to develop responsibility, character and valuable skill sets in our youth, is an essential service to our communities. A knowledgeable, committed 4-H Advisor is critical to the success of our local 4-H programs. Please continue funding this position.

Everybody knows that agriculture is a major source of California's GDP. But the people in that industry are aging at an alarming rate. The 4-H program isn't just to show animals at the county fair. It is the source of the next generation of those who will steward the land. Clearly, the individual farmer who lives and works on his own land is an idea that is receiving a great deal of new attention. UC should be at the forefront of that movement.

I agree that we need to fully support the local 4-H programs here in northern California where the public school programs have been stripped to the basics. 4-H provides a place for kids to learn using their hands, and focus on areas of interest to them.

I have farmed for over 45 years,, and have been very involved with the 4H Program, and the Ag in the Classroom Program. It has been my observation that these programs have went along way to introduce Ag. to our youth and their families. The North State has led the way in promoting Ag to our urban neighbors by going to there cities, and bringing them out to the farms. The whole U.C. system was put in place to assist Ag., and promote our Industry. Please replace this 4H Advisor in our area as soon as possible so that this education process is not interrupted. Thank you for allowing our input. Best Regards, John Garner

I am writing to request you fill the vacant positions of Area Sustainable Orchard Systems Advisor and Area 4-H Advisor (Butte/Glenn/Tehama) in the Butte County Farm, Home and 4-H Office.

These positions are vital to the operation of the local office, and they are necessary to continue the provision of services that increase and extend the knowledge of agricultural sciences to our farming community, and that support healthy development of our young citizens.

The partnership between the UC Cooperative Extension and the County of Butte is pivotal in supporting local agricultural operations through research, education and outreach. With local gross agricultural production values in excess of $700,000,000, the department's work to support the County's agricultural community is invaluable to the farmers, and to the County's economic vitality. The Area Sustainable Orchard Systems Advisor position is needed to support the department's mission to help farmers develop more efficient growing methods, solve pest management problems, and develop crop and irrigation methods that use less water.

The 4-H program serves the County's youth and offers programs that are designed to help our young people discover and develop their potential, and grow into competent, contributing and caring citizens that understand and express the concept of service to their community. The investment in the youth of today, through programs like 4-H, will yield the competent, contributing and caring leaders of tomorrow that we need. The continued support of the Area 4-H Advisor position will help accomplish this worthwhile goal for Butte County.

The County appreciates and supports our local Farm, Home and 4-H Office and its mission, and requests the positions be funded and filled to continue to allow that mission to be accomplished.

Sincerely,

Paul Hahn
Chief Administrative Officer
Butte County

I am writing to request you fill the vacant positions of Orchard Advisor and Area 4-H Advisor for Butte/Glenn/ Tehama County. I grew up in the Butte County 4-Hprogram and am now a parent and leader in Butte County 4-H. It is a great asset to the youth of our community. The program benefits everyone through the club, community and world. Having 4-H teaches youth responsibility, knowledge and hands on skills that are not common in every day values anymore. With guidance from a 4-H Advisor our community will greatly benefit and our youth will be able to succeed from adolescent to valued members of society.
Having a Orchard Crop Advisor is an invaluable tool to our agriculture community. Chico is a Chico is a farming town and with the guidance of a Crop Advisor we will continue to be a thriving agriculture society creating pathways for the future generations to come. With the assistance of a crop advisor famers are able to be event more efficient and educated about what is going on with the crops we grow. Being a 4th generation farmer in the area my family has used our Crop Advisor on numerous occasions. The advisor is the link from the university studies to hands on farming operations.
I appreciate all the continued support of the university system and hope for a positive outcome.

The 4-h program in rural counties such as these is invaluable. Children are taught leadership, responsibility as well as agricultural and many other skills. There is no other program like 4-H. Unfortunately with all of the additional paperwork and rules an enormous amount of work and responsibility is required by adult volunteers. These volunteers need to be well supported by efficient paid staff members or they will disappear. Our 4-h programs produce well rounded community leaders especially in the agricultural industry. It is essential that the 4-H adviser position is funded.

Having raised two kids in 4-H and been a project leader I have seen first hand the positive impact this program makes. Not only did our kids learn the responsibility of raising animals they learned public speaking, record keeping, budgeting, cooking, sewing, woodworking and much more. The money raised selling animals at the Jr Livestock Auction is the biggest scholarship program in Butte County helping students with their college expenses. We request that you fill the position of 4-H advisor.

There are few programs that that involve young people of all ages and with parent/guardian participation than a 4-H program. There has not been a time when the values 4-H lives by have been needed more.
