Tune in March 24 for webinar about Day of Science and Service

The UCCE Centennial Committee members invite you to join them for a short webinar on Monday, March 24, at 2 p.m. to learn more about the May 8 Day of Science and Service.

On May 8, 1914, President Wilson signed the Smith-Lever Act and established the national Cooperative Extension Service, which strongly tied service, science and citizen participation together in scientific enterprises.

Now, 100 years later, we're celebrating this milestone by asking all Californians to join in a one-day science project and to be a scientist for a day. We've developed three questions – about water, food and pollinators – and we're turning to you to help us engage the public to collect answers to these questions.

During the webinar, Rose Hayden-Smith, Yana Valachovic and Marissa Stein will discuss the Day of Science and Service, what it means for ANR, and direct you to resources and ideas for planning local activities and conducting outreach in your counties and on your campuses.

“The Day of Science and Service has been met with a lot of excitement all over the state,” said VP Barbara Allen-Diaz in last week's ANR town hall. She has agreed to wear bees on April 30 to help increase visibility and excitement for May 8 activities.
