Social Media Student Assistant
(Student Assistant 4)
Position Summary:
University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources is seeking a resourceful, motivated and tech-savvy college student who is enthusiastic about building online communities.
Working within UC ANR’s Strategic Communications unit, the Social Media Assistant develops social media content to support UC ANR’s mission and strategic plan. Under the supervision of the Social Media Strategist, the Social Media Assistant will develop campaigns targeting different segments of the UC ANR audience while highlighting the organization’s programs, partnerships, and projects.
The Social Media Assistant also establishes connections with statewide academics and staff and supports their social media projects such as annual campaigns and field work.
He/she/they will be guided by the Social Media Strategist in following best practices for outreach on social media.
This position is a limited term appointment with a maximum of 16 hours of work per week with flexibility. The schedule will be arranged based on the student's academic schedule.
Key Responsibilities:
- 60% - Design, create and publish social media content that enhances affinity for UC ANR, builds meaningful online connections, and encourages engagement across X, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, and Threads using innovative tactics to grow the audiences of each of the main social media accounts. Develop and execute social media strategy to increase awareness of the breadth of UC ANR programs and information. Support/cover strategic events as assigned.
- 20% - Assist with social media analytics, reporting, and compliance reports.
- 10% - Moderate comments across social media profiles and engage with their communities.
- 10% - Serve as a social media resource, answering questions from academics and staff interested in social media and making recommendations to the Strategic Communications team
Special Conditions of Employment:
If the student's schedule allows, there may be occasional in-state travel for this role.
Must be enrolled as a student at an accredited California community college, state college, or university with a minimum of 6 units.
Must possess a valid California Driver's License to drive a County or University vehicle. Ability and means to travel on a flexible schedule as needed, proof of liability, and property damage insurance on the vehicle used are required.
As of January 1, 2014, ANR is a smoke- and tobacco-free environment in which smoking, the use of smokeless tobacco products, and the use of unregulated nicotine products (e-cigarettes), is strictly prohibited.
Compensation:
$18.20 per hour
Requirements:
- Demonstrated experience creating social media content, including videos and graphics.
- Demonstrated experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva or similar content creation platform.
- Demonstrated experience creating content for TikTok.
- Experience collaborating successfully on communications projects.
- Strong writing and graphic design skills.
Preferred Skills:
- Proficient bilingual communication/translation abilities in Spanish or another targeted California language.

Working within UC ANR’s News and Information Outreach in Spanish (NOS) unit, the Social Media Assistant develops social media content to support the Strategic Communications mission and strategic plan. Under the supervision of the Social Media Strategist and NOS Program Manager, the Social Media Assistant will develop campaigns targeting different segments of UC ANR’s Spanish-speaking audience while highlighting the organization’s programs, partnerships, and projects.
The Social Media Assistant also establishes connections with statewide academics and staff and may support their outreach to the Latino community.
The Social Media Strategist will guide him/her in following best practices for social media outreach.
This position is a limited-term appointment with a maximum of 16 hours of work per week and flexibility. The schedule will be arranged based on the student's academic schedule.

- Preferable with residence in Southern California, especially Riverside County.
