Returning Volunteers

Re-apply annually by December 31st

All 4-H volunteers must be appointed annually. If you are a current 4-H Adult Volunteer, to continue in the next year you need to re-apply and be re-appointed by December 31^stto continue with no break in service.

Re-application process

1. Update your Online profile. Log in to the current Online system (Z-Suites for 23-24) to update your profile to enroll for the new year. Please make sure the email address in the system is correct and one you check regularly.

2. Take the Returning Volunteers Training in the online eXtension system. You will receive the login information sent to your Family email after you update and submit your Z-suites profile application for the new year. Otherwise, you can register for the trainings directly through the eXtension website. There is also a guide, Using eXtension for 4-H Volunteers, to help you register for the eXtension website. 

   • 55 Minutes (Can be completed over multiple sessions)

     • CANRA for Volunteers - 30 minutes
     • 4-H Thriving Model of PYD - 15 minutes
     • University of California 4-H Core Values - 5 minutes
3. Get approved as a 4-H Volunteer. The  4-H Office reviews and approves 4-H volunteer appointments after all the application requirements and mandatory trainings are completed.

If you have a break in service

If you have a break in service of more than (1) one 4-H program year as a 4-H Adult Volunteer, you will need to follow the process for New Volunteers.

The California 4-H Returning Volunteer Course gives you important updates on policies and best practices to keep you up to date. It focuses on CANRA guidelines and the 4-H Thriving Model for Positive Youth Development. You'll also learn about the 4-H program's commitment to creating a safe and welcoming environment for all youth, and how you can help achieve that vision.

El curso para voluntarios que regresan del programa 4-H de California le ofrece actualizaciones importantes sobre políticas y mejores prácticas para mantenerlo al día. Se enfoca en los lineamientos de CANRA y en el Modelo 4-H para el Desarrollo Positivo de la Juventud (4-H Thriving Model for Positive Youth Development). También aprenderá sobre el compromiso del programa 4-H de crear un ambiente seguro y acogedor para todos los jóvenes, y cómo usted puede ayudar a lograr esa visión.
