The Legislature and Gov. Newsom concluded the 2026 legislative session on Aug. 31 and reached agreements on multiple pieces of legislation and final compromises for the 2026-27 state budget.
“I am happy to share that UC ANR is receiving an 8.6% increase in ongoing funding alongside the campuses,” said Vice President Glenda Humiston. “The Legislature also approved AB 1486, which would release Proposition 4 funding for Agricultural Experiment Station research.”
In other government relations news, UC ANR and partners had advocated for autonomous agricultural equipment reform.
“While the effort did not lead to a legislative agreement, we thank our partners and colleagues for their support and look forward to continuing this work next year,” said Anne Megaro, director of government and community relations.
Nestor Lopez, associate director of government and community relations, reported that a compromise was reached for SB 895, the California Science and Research Bond Act, so voters will see a $7.5 billion bond measure on the March 2028 ballot.
