Getting the Red In: Happy Valentine's Day!

Someone once said that "red doesn't tiptoe into a room; it kicks down the door."

Red is bold, fiery, and confident. It's also a warning: think stop signs, traffic lights and fire engines. Don't blow through a stop signs or red traffic light, and please pull over when you hear a siren.

Red is not the color you wear when you want to blend into the background. Photographers, the wait staff, and ushers don't wear red. Neither does the farmer in the bull pen. (On the other hand, if you wear a red vest when you walk into a hardware store, be prepared to answer all kinds of questions about bolts, screws and nuts, along with doodads, whatnots and doohickeys.)

But red also symbolizes love, passion and romance.

My favorite insect image on Valentine's Day is this one.

It's a pile of ladybugs (actually they're beetles) determined to give you some assistance when you discover aphids in your garden this spring. They're crowd pleasers, for sure!

Happy Valentine's Day!
