Society for Range Management Annual Meeting to be held in Monterey (Feb 7-11, 2026)

February 7–11, 2026, The Society for Range Management (SRM) will host its annual conference in Monterey, bringing together ranchers, land managers, researchers, students, and agency professionals from across the nation and the world. The meeting theme is ‘Herd ‘Round the World: Celebrating Global Rangelands and Pastoralism”. The conference will highlight shared challenges and solutions across grazing systems and regions, from Mediterranean climates like ours to arid and semi-arid rangelands.  This is a rare opportunity for our region to be front and center of such a world-renowned global rangeland event.

Attendees can expect symposia and technical sessions on grazing management, drought resilience, fire and fuels management, soil health, carbon and climate, invasive species, wildlife coexistence, and ranch economics. For producers and land managers, the meeting offers practical, science-based tools and case studies that can be applied directly on the ground; and a Ranchers Forum, where ranchers can learn from and share with peers. Researchers and practitioners from California will be presenting their work, making this a unique opportunity to share ideas, and build new collaborations without leaving the state.

One of the highlights will be local field tours, including visits to Pinnacles National Park and surrounding rangelands. These tours will showcase working ranches, conservation grazing projects, and public–private partnerships, including grazing in and around parks. Whether you manage a family ranch, work for an agency or land trust, or conduct rangeland research, the SRM conference offers opportunities to everyone for networking, and professional development. I encourage everyone from across the region to attend, if possible.
