In May 2020 UCCE San Benito County, in partnership with the Resources Conservation District of Monterey County, was awarded a $379,000 CAL FIRE Fire Prevention Grant to develop a prescribed burn association covering San Benito, Monterey, and Santa Cruz counties.
The atmospheric river event in October of 2021 followed by mild temperatures in northern California turned many grasslands green but may have also resulted in advantageous growing conditions for many types of mushrooms.
