Monterey County Well Registration- Free Until January 31, 2026!

As part of the Groundwater Monitoring Program, the Monterey County Water Resources Agency, together with the Salinas Valley Basin Groundwater Sustainability Agency, has launched a new county wide Well Registration Program.

The Groundwater Monitoring Program consists of four parts: well registration, groundwater extraction monitoring, groundwater level monitoring, and groundwater quality monitoring. The program is supported through a fee system, for a fee breakdown click here.

The first part of this program is well registration. Well owners can register their wells for free through January 31, 2026. After this deadline, there is one-time initial registration fee of $160.16 per well. There is also an annual well registration renewal fee of $21.86 per well. Tenant farmers are encouraged to check with landowners to see if their wells have been registered.
