The Shasta Forestry Institute for Teachers (FIT) is now accepting applications for its 2026 summer session, taking place July 19–25 at Camp Cumber in Shingletown, California.
FIT offers an immersive, week-long, in-forest professional learning experience designed for both formal and nonformal educators across California. Participants work alongside credentialed instructors and natural resource professionals to explore forest ecosystems, active forest management, environmental education strategies, and hands-on curriculum development.
Who Should Apply
FIT welcomes active California educators including TK–12 teachers, preservice teachers, administrators, and nonformal educators. Whether attending individually or as part of a team, participants will collaborate with peers from across the state while building practical, standards-aligned environmental education skills.
Program Highlights
Participants will experience:
Field trips to active forest management operations and a lumber mill
Indoor and outdoor instruction led by forestry and environmental experts
Project Learning Tree (PLT) and Project WET curriculum training
Collaboration and lesson planning time
Connections with educators and natural resource professionals statewide

A $200 stipend after completing a FIT curriculum implementation project

FIT is a residential program, and participants should be prepared for full days of field-based learning, outdoor instruction, and limited cell service.
