About eight years ago, we planted a 4-way pluot tree. It is a Zaiger Interspecifics grafted tree from Dave Wilson Nursery. The 4 different grafts are Dapple Dandy, Flavor Supreme, Flavor King, and Flavor Queen. The tree grew fast, and well, it has always looked healthy, and fruiting started quickly within 3-4 years of planting.
At some point after fruiting started, however, one branch began to grow significantly bigger than the others. The first pic reflects the fruit from the biggest graft by far - Flavor Queen. This is actually the first year that the graft has produced more than a handful of fruit, even though its growth has far outstripped the others. The smallest graft is Dapple Dandy, which gives us beautiful speckled fruit. The other two grafts are also much smaller than Flavor Queen, but are good producers as well. We are happy with the production. The other grafts have more fruit than their thin branches can carry, and had to be tied to avoid breakage.
In looks, however, the tree is very lopsided. Picture #4 shows the entire tree leaning north, as the huge Flavor Queen branch is itself facing north. I am not sure what I should or could have done. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Meanwhile, this combo pluot is a wonderful and fruitful tree, regardless of the aesthetics and the owner's failings.
