I really enjoy the moon when it is full. This year, we have several unique things happening with the moon. In January, we had the full moon eclipse. I made sure to set the clock and get up early to see the eclipse. My favorite part is when the eclipse is almost completely total and there is a quarter ring of light left. This is called the ‘Diamond Ring'. It's a wonderful sight to see.
Why have a moon Garden? A moon garden is a good place to spend quality time with family and friends, to meditate and to just relax and enjoy the garden. Pull out the cushions, have a seat and enjoy the calm.
I would create a moon garden by bringing in some soothing sounds. I like bamboo wind chimes or a gentle sounding waterfall. We have a Shishi Odoshi waterfall. It's a small version of the one you see in the Kill Bill 2 movie.
To make the area appeasing and bring in more moon light. I add rocks and small boulders that are light colored. You can also create a stone pathway that is light colored that leads throughout the garden. Fun right???
What should you plant for a moon garden? We have variegated green with white and silver – gray plants. Senecio cineraria ‘Silver Dust', Artemisia schmidtiana, Silene uniflora ‘Druett's Variegated'. We plant white blooming flowers, Dahlia ‘Fleurel', Gerbera jamesonii, Scabiosa caucascia ‘Fama White', Cornus florida.
Fragrance is important too. Daphne odora ‘Aureo-marginata', Hardenbergia violacea ‘White Out', Epiphyllum oxypetalum, Sweet Peas, Clematis terniflora, Hedychium coronarium, and Jasminum officinale.
The idea is to have fun in the garden and to enjoy it. At night!
