Under the Solano Sun
Seasonal observations by UC Master Gardeners of Solano County
When is the best time to start tomatoes from seed? This has been an ongoing debate I've had with other gardeners. Debates like this are pretty common, and because so many of them come down to preferences alone there's often no right or wrong about them.
This is the season for many plants such as aeoniums to send out flowers. This can make gardeners be quite sad. Why, you may ask? According toWikipedia, Monocarpic plants are those that flower and set seeds only once, and then die.
Have you noticed that there are recently a lot of large flies all over the place that look like over-sized mosquitos? I have seen these creatures before but never in such large quantities this early in the season.
