Board of Directors to promote philanthropy through advocacy and fundraising in support of agriculture, natural resources and community health
The new University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources Foundation has been established to advance UC ANR's essential research and extension mission.
The foundation – to be incorporated as a 501(c)(3) organization following approval by UC President Michael Drake in October – will support programs that promote California's agriculture and food systems; natural ecosystems and working landscapes; and healthy and thriving communities.

The Vegetable Crops Program Team will meet Monday, Nov. 26, and Tuesday, Nov. 27, at the UC ANR Building in Davis.
There is no cost to attend, but registration is required so that Program Support staff can plan for the appropriate number of people. Funding is available, if requested in your registration, to support the travel of ANR Academics and Programmatic Staff. Travel approvals will be sent to registrants within one week of registration.

UC ANR is offering three scholarships to college students majoring in agriculture. The scholarships will be awarded for the fall 2018 semester or quarter. The deadline to apply or nominate for the scholarships is May 18, 2018.

I am pleased to announce that Mark Lagrimini, professor of agronomy and horticulture at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, has accepted UC ANR's position of Vice Provost of Research and Extension. As Vice Provost of Research and Extension, he will provide leadership and vision to county-based Cooperative Extension personnel and those at the nine Research and Extension Centers.

Farmers are still being urged to complete the Census of Agriculture surveys. Although Feb. 5 was the deadline, a USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service representative said the Ag Census website https://www.agcounts.usda.gov/cawi was strained due to heavy traffic on Monday so it will be accepting census survey responses the rest of the week. She said farmers can get extensions to March 27 by calling 800-727-9540. They'll also be contacting people who haven't responded.
As of Feb. 2, only 26 percent of California farmers had responded.
