The Endemic and Invasive Pests and Diseases Strategic Initiative has named its panel of experts and scheduled its first conference for April 25-26, 2012, announced Beth Grafton-Cardwell, the EIPD Strategic Initiative leader. To make efficient use of participants’ time and travel funding, the conference is being held in conjunction with a separate but related UC Davis conference on April 24, in which participants will learn the best ways to educate the general public about the threat of invasive species.

An ANR Program Teams Conference will be held at the Rec Pool Lodge at UC Davis, Feb. 7 - 9, 2012.
Program teams planning to participate thus far include:
- Healthy Behaviors for Preventing Childhood Obesity
- Youth Science Literacy in Nutrition, Agriculture and Natural Resources
- Youth Development
- California Communities
Preliminary plans call for discussion of cross-cutting issues and concerns at the beginning and end of the convening for these program teams, with the bulk of the time spent in individual program team and/or workgroup meetings.

Some Program Teams and workgroups will be meeting at the Sustainable Food Systems Strategic Initiative Conference, which will be held Oct. 11 to 13 at Freeborn Hall, UC Davis.
Program Teams are umbrella structures under which workgroups now operate. The objective of this structure is to provide a more efficient and effective means for workgroups to meet and carry out their essential functions, and enhance inter-workgroup communication and collaboration.

Program Council has been working, in consultation with workgroup chairs, to develop a structure that would provide better support to workgroups and continue ANR’s commitment to grassroots planning and program implementation. The objective of this new structure is to provide a more efficient and effective means for workgroups to meet and carry out their essential functions, and enhance inter-workgroup communication and collaboration. As we worked to develop an improved structure and funding mechanism, we determined that due to budgetary constraints it is not feasible to directly fund the more than 80 independent workgroup meetings that have been supported in the past.
