Dear Colleagues,
Following an interview process and review of the feedback collected from the search committee and seminar attendees as well as the application materials, I am requesting that the Vice Provost – Cooperative Extension search be extended so that we may solicit more candidates for consideration. Although we saw several strong applicants, we want to be certain that we have done our due diligence in finding the very best person for this critical job.
The Vice Provost – Cooperative Extension is a key position that provides oversight and coordination for the academic review process. In addition, the person in this position will provide leadership and vision for our network of county leaders and how...
The extended vacancy of the Youth, Families and Communities Director position (vacant 17 months) has given us time to consider program needs and how we, as a Division, can best meet those needs moving forward. After reflection, collecting recommendations from the respective Statewide Directors and gathering input from the broader ANR community, I have decided not to fill the YFC Director position. Interim Co-directors Shannon Horrillo and Katie Panarella have provided excellent leadership and afforded the Division an opportunity to invest the unused salary provision to further strengthen and support the YFC program.
Funds designated for the YFC Director position will be reinvested into YFC programs to support growth and...
Dear Colleagues,
I am pleased to announce that the request for proposals for ANR's 2017 competitive grants program is now released and can be found at http://ucanr.edu/compgrants2017.
In addition to releasing our competitive grants call, I would like to share information on a couple of newly developed funding opportunities: “high risk/high reward grants program” and “opportunity grants program.” Below are descriptions of the three different funding mechanisms.

Following a search process, I have decided not to fill the Youth, Families and Communities (YFC) Director position at the present time. This decision did not come easily because we were successful in attracting a number of outstanding candidates, each of whom would bring different experiences and perspectives to the position.
Given the current search for a Vice Provost of Statewide Programs and Strategic Initiatives, with whom the YFC Director would work closely, coupled with our need (following Chris Greer's announcement yesterday) to recruit for a new Vice Provost for Cooperative Extension, and the strategic planning process that ANR has just begun, we have decided to take time to re-assess the needs of the YFC programs....
Dear Colleagues,
Following a national search, Wendy Powers has been named UC ANR's new associate vice president. Dr. Powers, who has been a Michigan State University professor in the departments of Animal Science and Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering since 2006, will assume her position with UC ANR in Oakland on Monday, June 20.
Dr. Powers brings excellent executive skills from a different land grant college so she will be a great addition to ANR's leadership team. She knows Cooperative Extension and has experience in helping programs grow, which will be very valuable as we expand the CE footprint in California. An accomplished researcher and administrator, Dr. Powers has the leadership qualities to help...
