Dear Colleagues,
Along with many other actions taken to address budget cuts, increase the share of ANR resources going to programs, and advance the Strategic Vision, I am continuing to review the use of all funding sources to best benefit the Division’s people and programs.
Recently, some have expressed concern over our plans to redirect endowment funds to align them with the Strategic Vision. ANR’s balancing act is to use precious resources in ways that are accessible to the Division as a whole, and to focus competitive grants dollars on new 5-year missions that the collective discussion has determined are the highest priorities. Advisor and Specialist Position Solicitation
Dear Colleagues,
ANR is soliciting proposals for new advisor and specialist positions. These positions should address critical gaps in ANR’s programmatic and geographic coverage. Proposals must include: a general description of the position; a statement of the relevance to the ANR Strategic Vision; a description of the issues to be addressed (including key extension and research programs); identification of the current ANR continuum and the role this position will play in strengthening/building the continuum; and the support that will be provided. A little more than a year ago, the Division finalized the Strategic Vision: 2025. The document was the first step in a strategic planning process to address the challenges we face and provide the scientific and technological breakthroughs California needs to compete in a global economy, ensure a safe nutritious food supply, conserve natural resources, and keep Californians healthy. Nine multidisciplinary, integrated initiatives were presented, which represent the best opportunities for ANR’s considerable infrastructure and talent to seek new resources and new ways of partnering within and outside UC to find solutions for California.

BOC adds financial services staff
Cherie McDougald, chief administrative officer of the UC ANR Business Operations Center for county-based Cooperative Extension (based at Kearney Research & Extension Center), has announced the hiring of additional staff members for the BOC Financial Services Team.
The four new BOC Financial Services staff members are Helen Moriyama, Laura Gonzales, Guillermina Garcia and Maryann DeLecce.
Moriyama, who began her career appointment with the BOC on May 20, is a former UC Davis employee with the California Animal Health & Food Safety System’s Fresno Lab from 1987 through the closing of the Fresno branch in July 2009.
