Dear Colleagues:
The passage of Proposition 30 in last Tuesday’s election is an important victory for public education in the State of California. I am thankful that the citizens of California voted to support public education and to stem the tide of cuts to programs and people that would have eroded our mission and harmed our state.
While Proposition 30 is not a panacea, it represents a very welcome respite from the recent spate of deep budget cuts, and we can look forward to having a firm budget for the remainder of this academic year.

President Yudof has asked us to share his following message with you.
Dear Colleague:
With the November election looming, I am writing to encourage all members of the University of California community – students, faculty, staff and alumni – to exercise your right to vote. This innovative partnership between the agricultural community and UC Agriculture and Natural Resources recognizes the immediate importance of rice research and the need for this new funding model. I want to thank the California Rice Research Board for being the first.
The $800 million rice industry makes California the nation’s second largest rice producer. UC conducts research on weed control, pest management and variety testing for rice crops to keep...

The Office of the President has preliminarily assigned ANR a $6.2 million reduction for FY 2011-12. The exact amount will not be certain until final action on the State budget and action by the Board of Regents.
VP Dooley appointed an ad hoc budget committee to develop principles to guide the implementation of the $6.2 million reduction and, where appropriate, to make specific recommendations to achieve the budget target.
The committee recently completed their task by reporting their information to ANR Program Council and ANR’s Executive Working Group. In their short time span, 18...
