Dear UC Cooperative Extension Colleagues,
We are soliciting nominations for the Western Extension Leadership Development VII program, which will begin in 2013. The 15-month professional development program is designed for Cooperative Extension faculty, advisors, educators and specialists in the western United States and territories.
In the WELD program, participants learn and apply leadership skills. Objectives for the participants include:

ANR has formed a County Director Council in order to provide an efficient means to identify issues and gather information on matters of importance to Cooperative Extension prior to wider discussion and gathering of input. The council will provide county director perspective on:
- development of policies and procedures
- identification of training needs
- issues and topics to be addressed in monthly county director calls/meetings
- future ANR resource allocation processes

Dear Colleagues:
In 2012, ANR will seek supplemental proposals for advisor and specialist positions to address programmatic gaps that were not previously identified or that have arisen since the last call.
The exact schedule for position proposals is being finalized, but the call will be issued in January with the submission deadline in mid-May. The submission period is being extended to allow as much time as possible for internal consultation and external input from ANR stakeholders in all program areas.

An ANR leadership meeting was held June 28 at the UC Davis Activities & Recreation Center. In addition to the Executive Working Group, Strategic Initiative leaders, executive associate deans, county directors, statewide program directors, REC directors, and unit directors attended.
Dan Dooley, Barbara Allen-Diaz, Kay Harrison Taber, Bill Frost, Bob Sams and Don Klingborg gave updates on ANR’s budget and restructuring efforts that have been completed or are under way.
For the majority of the meeting, the participants formed break out groups to discuss four questions and brainstorm answers.

The ANR Office of Contracts and Grants and the Program Support Unit (PSU) held a 30-minute AFRI forum live via Adobe Connect today. It included a brief presentation by Bill Frost, director of PSU, outlining ANR’s AFRI support including who is eligible for support, what type of support is provided and how one gets support. From Contracts and Grants, Soheil Jadali demonstrated the ANR AFRI Resources web page and Bernadine Smith moderated questions from forum participants. Questions included specifics on ANR AFRI support process, AFRI funding opportunities, using Grants.gov, indirect costs, cost sharing, approval and submission, and more.
