Today President Napolitano announced that she is issuing a new presidential policy that prohibits sexual harassment and sexual violence, provides support for victims, and outlines training for faculty, staff and students. The new UC policy complies with the federal Violence Against Women Reauthorization Act regulations regarding domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking. As part of the University’s obligation to be transparent and publicly accountable for its conduct, including the way it compensates its faculty and staff, UC is conducting its annual disclosure of systemwide employee compensation for calendar year 2012. This disclosure parallels last year’s payroll disclosure and is consistent with similar practices at many other public institutions.

You may have seen an announcement from UCOP or UC Davis regarding the implementation of the UC Phased Retirement Program for January 1, 2012, through December 31, 2014. The intent of this new Phased Retirement Program is to help eligible employees who are 55 or older transition into retirement and allow for longer-term planning for employees, their families and the department they work in.
ANR has decided that it will not offer this program in 2012 to avoid adding to the workload of our already thin workforce. One of the primary guidelines in the program prohibits the department from adding capacity to offset a participating employee’s reduction in time.

Dear Colleagues,
The University of California is seeking comments on its proposed Phased Retirement Program that would help employees who are 55 or older transition into retirement. Senior Management Group members and academics would not be eligible for this program. The program would be subject to collective bargaining for represented employees.
UC wants to offer this program as an optional tool that locations and organizational units may choose to provide to eligible career staff employees as an opportunity to transition into early retirement. The program would allow staff members to reduce their work hours by at least 10 percent a year over a fixed period, from 120 days up to three years, before retiring. In exchange,...
