Over the course of the past 11 months, UC ANR has undertaken a position call process to identify the priority UCCE Advisor and UCCE Specialist position needs to support the work of the division. After a great deal of work, 46 positions were identified by the UC ANR Program Council and divided into three categories (highest, high, and can wait). Although we will utilize this categorization to the degree possible, the reality is that we need each and every one of those positions to serve our mission – all 46 positions are high priority to me. On Aug. 1, phase 2 of the Cooperative Extension Positions Call process ended and phase 3 began. During phase 2, the Program Teams reviewed the 40 phase 1 proposals and submitted six additional proposals. All submitted proposals are posted on the 2018 Call for Position web page: http://ucanr.edu/2018callforpositions.

Continuing our commitment to deploying Cooperative Extension (CE) specialists and advisors to address critical issues, ANR is soliciting proposals for these CE positions. The new 2016 call aims to identify positions for strengthening and rebuilding the ANR network to address programmatic gaps and emerging needs. The call, including the updated position proposal template as well as the process flowchart timeline and criteria documents, is posted at http://ucanr.edu/2016callforpositions.

To continue our aggressive effort in hiring Cooperative Extension Advisors and Specialists, I am announcing the release of positions for future rounds of hiring. These positions have been through a thorough process of proposal and review. The more than 120 proposals for these CE positions were developed in consultation with our stakeholders. I am pleased to announce that after a nationwide search we have selected Christopher Greer, Ph.D., to serve as the vice provost of UC Cooperative Extension effective July 1. Chris is currently UC Cooperative Extension director in Colusa, Sutter, Yuba and Glenn counties.
Since 2002, he has served as UCCE area rice advisor, first in Colusa, Glenn and Yolo counties, and most recently in Sutter, Yuba, Sacramento and Placer counties. His educational background includes a Ph.D. in plant pathology from UC Davis and B.S. in bioenvironmental sciences from Texas A&M University.
