We are pleased to announce that Rose Hayden-Smith has agreed to lead the Sustainable Food Systems initiative.
Hayden-Smith is Cooperative Extension county director and youth, family and community development advisor for Ventura County. In her advisor role, she develops programs for youth and adult extenders that focus on agricultural literacy and gardening. She previously worked with the Master Gardener Program and the UC Hansen Agricultural Center as educational programs coordinator. Recently she served as a Kellogg Food and Society Policy Fellow. As a Kellogg fellow, Hayden-Smith developed a national media and educational campaign to promote school, home and community garden efforts and public policies that would support those...

ANR academics are invited to apply to receive internal funding from the Western SARE Professional Development Program for California.
The funds must be used for professional development training activities for extension educators, CE advisors, CE specialists, Natural Resources Conservation Service field staff, or other professionals involved in outreach, and must focus on sustainable agriculture/food system practices. They can also be used for specific training activities for workgroups that are open to non-workgroup participants.
Each proposal should not exceed $4,000. The total available annual funding is approximately $34,000.

Program Council has been working, in consultation with workgroup chairs, to develop a structure that would provide better support to workgroups and continue ANR’s commitment to grassroots planning and program implementation. The objective of this new structure is to provide a more efficient and effective means for workgroups to meet and carry out their essential functions, and enhance inter-workgroup communication and collaboration. As we worked to develop an improved structure and funding mechanism, we determined that due to budgetary constraints it is not feasible to directly fund the more than 80 independent workgroup meetings that have been supported in the past.

We are pleased to announce the release of the Request for Proposals (RFP) for ANR’s competitive grants program.
As announced, ANR will invest in research, education and outreach projects through a competitive grants program aimed to support high priority issues, encourage collaboration among academics, support short-term high-impact projects, strengthen the research-extension continuum, and contribute policy-relevant outcomes addressing significant statewide economic, environmental and social issues in California.
