It is with mixed emotions that we share news of our departures from UC ANR. Our decisions were arrived at independently, but given how closely we have worked with each other, we wish to share our news together.
I, Vice Provost Mark Bell, will be taking on new challenges at the end of June after five years with UC ANR and 15 years, total, with UC. I will return to the international work I am so passionate about and where the needs remain so great – particularly with the recent pandemic and ongoing conflicts. While departing as a UC ANR employee, I hope to engage my colleagues from UC ANR and across UC whenever possible. I thank my many wonderful UC ANR and other colleagues for making...
Last year, UC ANR trialed a summer fellowship program in collaboration with the Department of Land, Air and Water Resources and the Planetary Health Center of Expertise at UC Davis. As a result, we had about six students doing a summer session with UC Cooperative Extension advisors. The fellowships allowed the students to get some “real world” experience and provided the advisors with support from some sharp UC student minds.
If you are interested in mentoring a student for Summer 2019, please submit your request using the following link http://ucanr.edu/survey/survey.cfm?surveynumber=26498. Funding is not required, although even modest funding...
Being able to connect is key to the success we in UC ANR enjoy in developing and providing solutions to help the people of California.
Please provide your input (see #3 under "Where are we?) to see how we might do this even better.
A summer survey to PT leaders and WG chairs asked for input on how we currently connect (and our current structure).
The three main findings were:
1. Our current structure (roles of Workgroups (WG), Program Teams (PT) and Strategic Initiatives (SIs)) is - shall we say - somewhat “fuzzy”.
2. Even with the lack of clarity on WG, PT and SI functions, people greatly value the opportunities to engage and interact.
3. There...
ANR academics are invited to apply for Strategic Initiative leader positions, which play key roles in unifying, communicating and advocating to strengthen UC ANR's research and outreach agenda. Given the ongoing evolving role of the UC ANR Strategic Initiatives (SI), the SI leaders agreed that it would again be beneficial to conduct an open search - from across the breadth of expertise of the division - for the next rotation of SI leaders.
Open positions. Two SI leader positions are scheduled to rotate off at the end of 2018. This change offers opportunities for others to take the lead...
A Zoom invitation from Mark Bell
As part of an ongoing effort to share information across the whole UC ANR family, we will trial share (using Zoom) the monthly ANR 2nd Street staff meeting.
Employees outside the UC ANR Davis building will be welcome to join us via Zoom (details below).
ANR staff meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and have three elements
1. "UC ANR in action" – stories from the field and staff,
2. Updates from staff and leadership, and
3. "Learning" - such as health and safety training, etc.
The sessions are brief and to the point. Send suggestions for this or future meetings...
