Basketball fans may have heard that last Saturday, Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving was bitten by bed bugs in a recent hotel stay in Oklahoma.
Bed bug encounters are on the rise throughout the United States and no hotel is completely immune to potential infestations. Unfortunately, Mr. Irving didn't know about checking for bed bugs in his hotel room before settling in.

California and other states have seen a recent resurgence in bed bugs in more than just crowded housing units and hotels. Bed bugs can be found anywhere where humans, their primarily food source, frequent. It's important that we are all aware of bed bugs and how we can prevent or control infestations of these very unwelcome insects.

To successfully eliminate bed bugs, pest management professionals (PMPs) say they need the cooperation of people living the pests, according to a survey conducted by UC Agriculture and Natural Resources scientists.
California's pest management pros are divided over whether they believe that some of the state's bed bug populations are resistant to insecticides, but they agree that the bugs may survive treatments by finding safe harbor in excessive clutter and personal items that tenants didn't want treated or thrown away. In addition, some settings – such as hotels, motels, college dorms and homeless shelters – may be continually reinfested.
