This is a great topic and it seems to be a hot topic depending on what variety is grown. There are many theories out there (some proven and others remain as theories). Abiotic: Cold weather, nutrients, soil moisture/wilting point. Biotic: Lygus, pollinators, and possibly..thrips?

that's what makes this article so good since it sheds light on so very many lygus topics still discussed with great vigor today. I feel like I could run a whole short course based on this one document.
