T-Shirts, Hats, and Logo Farms
In developing the Toolkit, we purposely didn't design apparel items or give-a-ways (AKA tchotchkes or swag). But we know that these items are on your minds - so here are some general guidelines:
Logo Farms
For "logo farms," t-shirts, hats, and similar items, the logotype version of the new identity is the best one to use. It's clean and simple, works well on a variety of backgrounds, and "plays well with other logos." The block identities have a tendency to look, well blocky, and compete for attention with other logos when used together.

Plastic name badges
If you're developing plastic name badges - simple is best. Drop shadows and shading won't work. We recommend the logotype version of the new identity or the "sleek" version of the UCCE logo - probably not both. A name badge is pretty small and the most important thing is the name, so don't try to include too many visual elements. And keep in mind that your vendor likely can't match color exactly, so get a proof.
Shirts and Hats
If you're just doing screen printing, you don't need to run your design past us, although we're always happy to look at what you have and give feedback. Pay attention to fonts and colors so whatever you develop works with the new identity system. Those two things pack the most visual punch. We can also design something for you if you have recharge money to spend.
Professionally embroidered items, because they are more expensive to produce and look more "official" should get an OK before you move forward. Contact Cynthia Kintigh in Communication Services.
We've mocked-up some t-shirt and hat examples to get your creative juices flowing. These aren't literal - just examples of how images and the logo can be placed for an effective design.
