
Below are descriptions of the County Events we offer annually. Please refer to the 4-H Calendar for specific dates.
4-H Awareness Day
At the Plumas-Sierra County Fairgrounds- During the Children's Fair
A 4-H event is organized to promote 4-H locally. Members create posters that express what 4-H means to them, covering a range of topics from their favorite projects and community services they've performed to the impact 4-H has had on their lives. Those with pets and market animals also set up a small petting zoo, allowing them to interact with both adults and children who visit the event.
Livestock 101 Camp
Are you interested in successfully raising a market animal? Join us for an exciting day of learning! We will cover topics such as how to select, feed, fit, show, and care for your market animal. Additionally, you will learn how to effectively market your animal, find financing, and much more!
Presentation Day
A County event where members give demonstrations to share skills learned in 4-H projects or prepared speeches on a subject of their choice. Learn more about Presentation Day and the importance of public speaking by clicking here.
Small Animal Field Day
A judging event featuring rabbits, poultry, cavies, dogs, and pygmy goats. Come on down and get to know these cute and fascinating animals!
Spring Fling
Clothing and Textiles - 4-H members showcase the garments they have made or assembled, which are then judged based on their construction.
Crafts - 4-H members enrolled in crafts and gardening projects have the opportunity to showcase their work.
Duct Tape - 4-H members create clothing and accessories using Duct Tape!
Foods - Food 4-H members prepare food items, include them within a balanced meal menu, and present them on appropriate place settings for judging
Just for Fun - Any 4-H member can create an edible art item using food!
Photography - There are five categories for photography: Animals/Birds, News/Action/Sports, Plants/Flowers, People, and Scenery.
Poster - Any 4-H member can create a poster that highlights a 4-H topic, whether it's general or specific to their project.
Primary Members - "Mini" 4-H members can create a table setting, display sewing projects, crafts, or photographs, or make a 4-H poster.
Skills judging - This is a judging contest featuring static displays where members rank objects related to a specific skill. This year, no verbal "reasons" will be provided, and all skills will be visually represented through items related to clothing, food, leather crafts, and more.
Here are descriptions of the County Events we have held in the past and are working on bringing back!
Livestock Ethics Fitting and Showing Field Day
At this wonderful event, you will hone skills that will help you succeed in your livestock project! You will learn tips for improving your showmanship skills as well as tips for getting your animal ready for the judges at the fair! You will also receive an Ethics Certificate, which will be good for 5 years! The day will end with the opportunity to compete in a Knowledge Bowl!
HORSEMASTERSHIP/HORSE SHOW
At the Plumas-Sierra County Fairgrounds
The event is a two-day horse competition that takes place in July. The Saturday activities are exclusively for 4-H Horse Project members who are enrolled in the Horse and/or Ponies Project. This day includes judging and skill events. On Sunday, the event is open to all 4-H members and is designed to resemble a traditional horse show, although it does not count as a county event. It always promises a weekend full of fun and impressive competitions!

Note: When held, the Horse Show on Sunday is open to ALL 4-H members, not just those enrolled in the Horse and/or Ponies Project. However, participants on that Sunday will NOT be eligible to compete for a buckle!
