Favorite Foods Day Rules

What is Favorite Foods Day?

Favorite Foods Day is an exciting event where Stanislaus County 4-H members showcase their food safety, preparation, and baking knowledge. You do not need to be enrolled in a 4-H foods project to participate—this event is open to all members who want to learn and have fun!

Why Participate in Favorite Foods Day?

This event is more than just a competition—it’s a "Learn by Doing" experience that helps members:

Actively participate in food preparation, etiquette, and table setting.
Improve skills in food safety, meal planning, and display.
Be creative and original with their entries.
Develop leadership skills and build self-confidence.

How to Participate

Choose a Theme – Select a special occasion or theme for your table setting.

2026 food themes are:

  • Cupcake Wars: flowers, insects, favorite character(s) from a show.
  • Cake Decorating: beach day, movie time, and I love 4-H
  • Food Art: colorful abstract, animals, and sports

Review the Rules – Make sure you understand the Favorite Foods Day rules and expectations.
Plan a Healthy Menu – Design a menu that fits your theme and write or print a menu card.
Gather Table Setting Items – Collect tableware, decorations, and a centerpiece that match your theme.
Prepare Your Dish – Make a dessert, salad, or decorated cake at home and bring it to the event. *Don't forget to bring 3 copies of your recipe to share!
Practice Your Presentation – Work with a fellow member or project leader to practice:

  • Introducing yourself (name, age, club, years in 4-H).
  • Explaining why you chose your dish and how you prepared it.
  • Asking judges if they have any questions.

Be Ready for Judging – You won’t be judged against other members! Instead, you’ll be evaluated based on:

  • Appearance, presentation, and knowledge
  • Food preparation, safety, and nutrition (questions will be age-appropriate).

 Most importantly—Have Fun!
