I started researching how to update on a shady spot under a tree and learned that hostas are great for adding color to areas that are mostly green. Roughly 3,000 varieties exist. Hostas have leaves in many colors, like cream, silver, gold, chartreuse, yellow, and blue. They also bloom with flowers in pink, lavender, light blue, or white from early summer to fall. These flowers can smell nice and attract pollinators. Some hosta names really appeal to me. Here are a few:
- Striptease: Green leaves with a golden stripe and a thin white edge.
Wolverine: Long, narrow blue-green leaves with creamy gold edges.

- Heavenly Tiara: Light green leaves with creamy gold edges that turn white.
- Whirlwind: Pointed leaves with dark green edges around creamy white centers that change to light green in midsummer and dark green by the end of the season.
