Guarino joins UC ANR as director of fire and life safety services

Stephen Guarino

Stephen Guarino, director of fire and life safety services for UC Office of the President, joined UC ANR on April 6. He continues to support fire and life safety programs across the UC system.

For over three years, Guarino has served as UC’s primary liaison to the California Office of the State Fire Marshal and California Department of Health Care Access and Information, helping guide code compliance, fire prevention and regulatory coordination across UC campuses and medical centers. He provides systemwide leadership for fire prevention, code compliance and life safety programs across UC campuses, medical centers and affiliated facilities. 

Guarino brings a multidisciplinary public safety background, having served in leadership roles as a fire marshal, fire chief and in law enforcement and emergency medical services. His work focuses on advancing consistent code enforcement, improving plan review and inspection practices, and strengthening statewide coordination among agencies.

Singh joins UC ANR Risk and Safety Services

Jasmeet Singh

Jasmeet Singh joined UC ANR Risk and Safety Services on Feb. 17 as an environmental health and safety specialist. She will support UC ANR’s statewide network, including Research and Extension Centers, UCCE offices, statewide programs/initiatives and administrative units.

Singh brings 10 years of professional experience across multiple sectors, including manufacturing, healthcare and higher education. Prior to joining UC ANR, she served as an environmental program manager at UC Merced, where she managed programs related to food safety, drinking water and recreational safety, and also supported broader campus environmental health and safety initiatives.

Singh also has experience working with UC policies and procedures, as well as supporting training programs, inspections and the use of common environmental health and safety databases and compliance tools. Her experience across these areas will help strengthen Risk and Safety Services’ ability to support ANR programs and locations statewide.

In her role with UC ANR, Singh will contribute to a variety of environmental health and safety projects and program areas and work collaboratively with ANR leadership, safety coordinators and staff across the organization to help advance our culture of safety.

Singh holds master’s and bachelor’s degrees in environmental and occupational health and safety from California State University, Northridge and California State University, Fullerton. She also holds several professional safety certifications, including Registered Environmental Health Specialist, Associate Safety Professional, Certified Safety Professional, and Certified Environmental and Safety Compliance Officer.

She looks forward to meeting UC ANR colleagues during site visits to Research and Extension Centers and UCCE offices, as well as through virtual meetings, trainings and discussion forums.
