The Opportunities
WISER supports students and early-career professionals through applied learning, employment, training, mentorship, and partnerships that strengthen California’s water and watershed workforce.


1. Student Employee & Fellowship Program
Undergraduate and graduate students gain hands-on experience working with CIWR researchers and partners on applied water research, science communication, data analysis, Extension materials, and community engagement, while building practical skills and professional connections in California’s water sector.

2. California Water Course
Developed by the UC Davis Water Management Lab, led by Samuel Sandoval Solis, the California Water Course is a bilingual, applied learning program that introduces community leaders, water advocates, and early-career professionals to California’s water systems, policies, governance, and management through self-guided learning, field experiences, and a regional Water System Self-Assessment.

3. California Water Works Initiative
A workforce-development initiative focused on understanding training needs, career pathways, and opportunities in California's water and watershed sectors.
