Planning and Planting a Little Fruit Orchard - Palo Alto
About the Event
So you want to plant fruit trees, excellent! What kind? Are you looking for plums, apricots, peaches, apples or something less common? There are hundreds of varieties of each, how do you choose? How big should the tree be? (There is actually a correct answer!) What are chill hours and how many are good? Semi-dwarf? True dwarf? Multi-graft? How do I plant a new tree? Local nurseries will begin stocking bare root fruit trees in December. Come learn what decisions affect the success of your orchard.
Don Bollinger leads the orchard team at the Master Gardener demonstration garden at Martial Cottle Park in South San Jose. He leads year-round hands-on learning and demonstrations of fruit tree management including winter pruning, water, fertilizer, pest management, soil health and fruit variety selection.
