Learn safe ways to preserve salsa at home by canning, freezing, & dehydrating, with unexpected salsa recipes that go beyond tomato salsas.
Go beyond tomato salsas and explore how different ingredients, flavors, and preservation methods come together in salsas you can make and preserve at home by canning, freezing, or dehydrating.
Salsa can take many forms, from fruit-based versions to rich, oil-based chili salsas and dehydrated salsa you can rehydrate later. What makes a salsa a salsa? Can salsa be made without tomatoes? And what preservation methods work for different kinds of salsa?
Join UC Master Food Preserver Online Delivery volunteers to explore salsa beyond tomatoes and safe, research-based ways to preserve it at home.
What we’ll explore
- Fruit-based salsas made from tested recipes
- Salsa macha, an oil-based chili salsa that freezes well in small portions
- A dehydrated salsa base that can be stored and rehydrated when you’re ready to use it
- How ingredients and recipes determine the safest preservation method
You’ll leave with a better understanding of how ingredients, recipes, and preservation methods work together to keep salsa safe.
