James Jay Farrar

Jim Farrar has been director of the University of California Integrated Pest Management Program (UC IPM) since October 2015. Farrar leads a team of 45 dedicated academics and staff to translate UC’s best pest management science into information and tools that Californians can use to safely and effectively manage pests. He led the Endemic and Invasive Pests and Diseases Strategic Initiative at UC ANR for 5 years and has worked at the state level on the Alternatives to Chlorpyrifos Work Group, the Sustainable Pest Management Work Group, and the Pest Management Advisory Committee of California Department of Pesticide Regulation. At the national level, he is active in the National IPM Coordinating Committee and IPM Alliance, which is currently partnering with Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research on valuation of IPM practices in the food supply chain. A significant focus of his current work is invasive pest prevention in California.
