About the Event
Many of us want to augment our pleasure in the garden by increasing our knowledge of and contact with wildlife - especially the birds.
The key to having a rich variety of bird life in your garden– or other critters for that matter – means understanding the principle of the ecological niche - the role or place that each organism occupies in nature. A bird’s niche is the sum of all the physical requirements that the bird has and all the ways in which it interacts with other species. When we want to attract birds, no one kind of food, nesting site, hiding place, foraging site, or bathing location is likely to satisfy every kind of bird. It also means that the more variety you have in your garden, the more species of birds you are likely to have living there.
Come join us on a walk through our developing garden at Los Guilicos and local natural areas to learn about increasing bird diversity in your garden. Master Gardener, California Naturalist, and long-time birder Mary Ellen King will focus us on how to “think like a bird”.
