Pruning Flowering Trees & Shrubs
About the Event
Program: Did you know that you prune flowering trees and shrubs differently depending on when they set their buds? Jocelyn will cover the pruning, styling, and care of many flowering trees and shrubs, both temperate climate and Mediterranean, that are found in Bay Area gardens. Topics will include baseline assumptions, plant rhythms, when to prune, including structuring and pruning for bloom, problem-solving, and ecological, soil, and fungi considerations.
Speaker: Jocelyn Cohen is the principal at “Poetree Landscapes & Arboriculture.” A Certified Arborist, Certified Aesthetic Pruner, and eco-arboriculturist, with extensive experience pruning, land restoration, and tree care. She has a background in landscape and garden design, fine art, graphic design, and photography. Jocelyn excels in pruning a wide variety of genus from Japanese maples to Manzanitas and specializes in early training and structuring of trees. Ecologist, artist, and advocate of trees and shrubs, her writings can be found in the “Manzanita” journal. She has taught Arboriculture at Merritt College and pruning workshops at the East Bay Regional Parks Botanic Garden, specifically on pruning California trees and shrubs.
