About the Event

What’s happening at the Gardens of Golden Gate Park? Protecting the World’s Plants: The Role of Botanic Gardens and How You Can Help

Program: Plant conservation is essential to protecting the biodiversity that sustains ecosystems, cultures, and human life — yet many plant species face unprecedented threats from climate change, habitat loss, invasive species, and human activity. This talk explores what plant conservation means, why it matters, and how the Gardens of Golden Gate Park are contributing to this global effort.

We’ll explore both the public-facing and behind-the-scenes work happening at the Conservatory of Flowers, the Japanese Tea Garden, and the San Francisco Botanical Garden, from plant curation and living collections management to conservation programs and education initiatives.

You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of the challenges plants face, why protecting them is vital, and how you can help share this message with others. Bring your questions — we’ll explore practical ways to talk about plant and environmental protection in our communities

Speaker: Brandi Eide, Gardens of Golden Gate Park Curator & Conservation Lead
