[PODCAST] Square Foot Gardening - Part 1 of 2
About the Event
Have a small space and love to grow food? This week reprise of a popular show on In the Garden with UC Master Gardeners, our beloved former KUCI staff host Mark Fierle spoke to an icon of the gardening world – Mel Bartholomew.
In this show, first aired September 17, 2015 – less than one year before Mel passed away - Mel talks about his visionary concept called Square Foot Gardening. From learning what went wrong in his community garden, Mel developed a space-defying, compact design with “a salad bowl in mind, not a wheelbarrow” (quote from Marjorie Kaufman’s “Bucking Tradition, Gardener Plants High-Yield Squares”1996). The Square Foot Gardening method has enabled people around the world, including people with disabilities and the blind, to feed themselves. Next week will be Part 2 of Mark’s interview with Mel.
For those outside of the FM broadcast boundaries, we invite you to find our station website and listen live at KUCI 88.9 FM – Irvine, Orange County Public Radio at 8:30am on Thursday mornings. After the broadcast, the show will be made available in our Master Gardeners of Orange County website, Radio Show & Podcasts page as soon as possible. Keep checking for all of our shows since the inception of our program!
