The Basics

Daikon is a Chinese radish, most are white, and can be round, cylindrical, or carrot-shaped. Different varieties range in size from a few inches up to two feet in length, and can weigh over a pound. Daikon can be planted in early spring or early fall but most varieties grow better as a fall crop.

When to plant

  • Direct sow seeds February–April
  • Direct sow seeds September–October (best as fall crop)

Harvest window:

  • Harvest 40–70 days later, depending upon the variety, depending on variety.
  • Daikon gets woody if left growing too long.

Care overview

  • Plant seeds 1/2" deep, 4–6" apart.
  • Keep moist.
