Countywide Projects
Countywide Projects are available to any Amador County 4-H Member in addition to any projects available at the club level. These projects have their own schedules and meeting dates and it is up to the member to keep informed of meetings. Participating in Countywide Projects is a great way to interact with members from other clubs who have similar interests.
Primary members are eligible to participate in projects marked with a (*).

BIRDS: POULTRY* Host Club: Blue Ribbon Up-Country Historically, humans and poultry have interacted in many ways beyond owning chickens as farm animals. From domesticated fowl being used for meat and egg production to fancy breeds being shown in competition, ducks, chickens, turkeys, and other poultry are a huge part of many cultures around the world. In 4-H, youth in the Poultry Project can learn: Caring for and raising chickens responsibly and humanely. Best management practices used on farms and industry. Value of poultry meat and eggs in human nutrition and how to grade eggs. Showmanship and showing techniques; breeds and anatomy of various types. Leader: Kelsi Williams |
EQUINE: HORSE & PONIES Host Club: Shenandoah Valley Learn how to care for, feed, and ride a horse or pony. The animal may be either owned or leased. Subcategories of this project include Breeding, Draft, Drill, Judging, Driving, English, Gymkhana & Dressage, Miniature, Trail Riding, and Western. Leaders: Mandi Thompson |
VETERINARY SCIENCE Host Club: Blue Ribbon Up-Country This project is designed to give members (9+ years of age) hands-on experiences with a variety of animal species. Members will learn to care for the health and well-being of several animals including dogs, goats, chickens, and more. Leader: Kelsi Williams |
BIRDS: AVIAN BOWL Host Club: Blue Ribbon Up-Country Learn, study, and memorize avian facts and become proficient in poultry management and related subjects. Test knowledge through participating in Avian Bowls at the local, statewide, and national level. BIRDS: MARKET/MEAT CHICKENS Host Club: Blue Ribbon Up-Country In this project, youth will learn about where their food comes. Youth can learn to raise, show and eat poultry. Starting with deciding which poultry you want to raise and learning how to house and feed them, this project will give youth an understanding of where our food sources start and how to raise them with care and love. Market poultry members will learn: The proper care for raising market poultry responsibly and humanely. The options in feeding, housing, and ethics. Leader: Kelsi Williams |
CLOTHING & TEXTILES: SEWING Members in this project will learn the skills necessary to create their own pieces of work including measuring and cutting of fabric, using patterns, hand and machine stitching, etc. Leader: Laurie Bertken
