Separate Foods Properly

It is important to separate foods to prevent cross-contamination. If raw meat, poultry, seafood, and eggs are not handled properly, harmful bacteria can spread to other foods and throughout the kitchen.

To prevent cross-contamination:

  • Separate raw meat, poultry, seafood, and eggs from other foods in your grocery cart, shopping bags, and refrigerator.
  • Use one cutting board for fruits & vegetables and a separate one for meat, poultry, and seafood.
  • Never place cooked food on a plate or other surfacethat held raw meat, poultry, seafood, or eggs.
