Field Ergonomics

Fieldwork is any practical work conducted by an employee in the natural environment, including farm work, greenhouse duties, and outdoor research. Because of the nature of duties, fieldwork employees are prone to backaches and pains in the shoulders, arms, and hands, leading to work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSD).

Additional fieldwork ergonomics training and review are recommended for all employees who will be spending extensive hours outdoors. Refer to the materials as resources to understand the risks in the field.

Numerous activities are occurring in the field, and there are various solutions for each activity. Refer to the resources below to identify the common ergonomic concerns in your field and find possible solutions.
