File Codes

File codes are a quick step to creating a link to a file. The are found in both the Mini File Library and the Main File Library, and contain the suffix of type (in this case, "File") and a number. So a file code looks like this: *File0000*

How to use a file code

Copy or re-type the file code, from asterisk to asterisk, and paste where you would like to see your file appear. The image below shows where you would find the file codes in Main File Library after they've been uploaded.

You will notice that in your text editor, the File Code appears with the asterisks. However, when you save and update your asset and click to "View Current Site" (found in the green header of your dashboard) you will see that the file appears in its saved format, for example if a jpeg or gif or png, you will see the image. If a pdf, word or xl document, you will see a link appear in the name of the file. Your visitor will be able to download the file by simply clicking on it.

You can obtain the same result using the Mini File Library. Upload your file by clicking on "Browse", and when you see your file in the window below the text editor in your SB3 dashboard, you can either enter the file code where you wish in your text box, or place your cursor in the spot you wish and click on "insert File".

The Davinci File Code

A huge benefit to using file codes is they automatically republish their paths if you move pages with files in them. If you use a link that has a url code in it, should you move a page around in your site, that path will be null after the move. Our extreme devotion to you has brought about the file code method to keep links active and healthy no matter what happens to the pages.
