As many of you already know, the ANR FileVault is a great way to send and receive large documents. Some of you may not know that the sender does not need to be in ANR to send you files. Anyone can go to http://ucanr.org/filevault and send a document to any ANR employee.
There are a couple of tricks you can use to make it even easier for non-ANR folks to send you files. Note: these tricks ONLY work for non-ANR users of the File Vault. If you are logged into the ANR Portal, the FileVault link will redirect you into your internal FileVault space.
Pro-tip number one: add a "sendto" email address
Merely append your email address in the URL you send out, and your name will automagically be selected from the drop down list.
If you add your email using ?sendto=youremail@ucdavis.edu, as long as this is the email used for you in the ANR directory, the FileVault will pre-populate the form with your name, as seen below.
Pro-tip number two: add a "name" for your document
As with the email address, you can also append a default document name to the URL.
The form will then use this name as a default.
Putting it all together
You can take advantage of both of these tips in one glorious URL by combining the two things with an ampersand "&" in the URL.
It doesn't matter which is first, as long as both items follow the question mark and are joined by the ampersand. Using this example, our form will look like this:
If you'd like to test this stuff out, be sure to log out or use a browser you are not logged into, otherwise, you will be redirected to your internal FileVault page.
