Makes sense. We are seeing salt problems in man parts of the state - even in areas where this has not historically been a problem. About 20 years ago I wrote a newsletter article about how we should take into consideration the contribution of salts by the fertilizers we apply. Add that to declining well water quality and we have some serious soil chemistry issues developing in some areas.

Hi Maxwell,  
I don't doubt it. The lack of rains this year is exacerbating the problem because we didn't get the magnitude of leaching we are accustomed to. It seems the big theme this year for berry growers is salt up and down the coast.  
Appreciate you reading the blog by the way and sharing your thoughts.
