This grant supports increasing the pace & scale of CA's sustainable forest restoration activities. Grant projects must contribute to long-term forest ecosystem sustainability; forest health; carbon storage; & wood products, biofuels, or bioenergy. Activities eligible for funding include research and development activities that support innovative wood and biomass products, bioenergy, workforce housing, and workforce development. Preferred Projects are projects that the Institute has identified as current needs in advancing wood and biomass utilization in the State.

Food and Agriculture Service Learning Program (FASLP)
The Food and Agriculture Service Learning Program (FASLP) is intended to increase knowledge of agriculture and improve the nutritional health of children, and to bring together stakeholders from the distinct parts of the food system to increase the capacity for food, garden, and nutrition education within host organizations or entities, such as school cafeterias and classrooms, while fostering higher levels of community engagement between farms and school systems. The goal of these efforts is not only increasing access to school meals for needy children, but also to dramatically improve their quality and to decrease food loss and waste through student, school and community engagement.

NIFA’s Food Safety Outreach Competitive Grant Program (FSOP) focuses on delivering customized training to community members via Community Outreach Projects and Collaborative Education and Training projects. The program supports developing grant writing and technical assistance resources. This includes on-farm and on-site training and/or technical assistance that focuses on pre- and post-harvest water testing and sampling, soil amendments, developing supply chain programs, and/or developing food safety plans.

Extreme Heat and Community Resilience Program

The Program provides funding for projects to protect California communities most vulnerable to the impacts of extreme heat.
Early Infrastructure Projects fund heat-related infrastructure planning and a demonstration project that tests proposed approaches. Awards range from $750,000 to $1.2 million.
Advanced Infrastructure Projects fund the implementation of heat-related infrastructure projects that have been identified through prior planning efforts and determined to be feasible. Awards range from $3 million to $4.5 million.
