USDA APHIS HPAI Poultry Innovation Grand Challenge FY25

Dear Colleagues,

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) invites applications for the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) Poultry Innovation Grand Challenge for FY 2025. This critical funding opportunity aims to combat HPAI, protect the U.S. poultry industry, and reduce economic impacts such as rising egg prices. With up to $100 million available, APHIS seeks groundbreaking proposals that advance vaccines, therapeutics, and research to address HPAI outbreaks and strengthen poultry health nationwide.

Eligibility and program priorities:

Proposals must clearly align with one or more of the following priority topics (See Appendix 1 of the NOFO for more information):

  • Topic 1. Develop novel vaccines to protect poultry from HPAI that are safe, potent, and efficacious across multiple avian species and against current circulating clades.
  • Topic 2. Develop novel therapeutics to address HPAI in poultry, including preventing, controlling, or eliminating HPAI virus, characterizing genomic targets for disease resistance, and supporting poultry health.
  • Topic 3. Conduct research to further understand avian influenza in poultry and to improve response strategies.

  • Typical Award Maximum: $2,000,000 (Projects requesting more than this amount are also considered)
